POINTON PARTNERS ACTS AS LEGAL ADVISORS FOR THE FINANCIAL REVIEW CORPORATE CYCLING CHALLENGE EVENTS OF 2012

Pointon Partners has recently advised Australian Corporate Cycling Challenge Pty Ltd on the successful staging of the amateur cycling events known as the Financial Review Corporate Cycling Challenge (‘CCC Events’).

This year’s CCC events were held in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne and were a great success, with cycling enthusiasts representing a number of corporate teams in a time trial race modelled on a Tour De France time trial leg.

In a truly unique component of the CCC Events, a number of elite international professional cyclists competed in the events alongside amateur cyclists in the corporate teams.

Professional cyclists who competed in this years’ CCC Events included Richie Porte (Team Sky), Koen de Kort (Argos- Shimano), David Tanner (Team Saxo), Nathan Haas (Garmin – Sharp), Steele Van Hoff (Chipotle – First Solar) and representatives of Australia’s own UCI Team, Orica – Green Edge, including Baden Cooke a Green Jersey winner at the Tour de France.
Pointon Partners assisted with preparation and negotiation of Sponsorship Contracts, apparel supply agreements, Terms and Conditions of Entry, Event Location Agreements, Consultant Agreements and agreements for participation for Elite Athletes.

There is no other amateur cycling event like this in Australia and Pointon Partners are proud to be the legal advisors for the CCC Events.

Key Issues to consider for Sponsorship Contracts
For client’s entering into Sponsorship arrangements for events they are staging, key issues to consider include:

  • Level of sponsorship funding required for the events
  • What is an appropriate level of sponsorship funding for the value provided to the sponsor via the sponsor benefits and the exposure generated for the sponsor by the event
  • How many years should the arrangement run for?
  • What rights do each party have to use each other’s trade marks, branding, logos for each other’s marketing
  • purposes
  • What processes should be put in place for event cancellations and re – scheduled events, and what impact should this have on the sponsorship deal?
