Carl is a commercial litigation lawyer practising in insolvency, property and complex commercial disputes with more than 10 years’ experience.

A significant part of Carl’s practice involves disputes arising from corporate insolvency and restructuring. His work includes investigations and examinations, recovery proceedings including voidable transaction and insolvent trading claims, applications concerning the sale of trust property, applications for approval of remuneration, and disputes involving directors’ duties and security interests. He appears in court in winding up applications, bankruptcy proceedings, applications to set aside statutory demands and directions hearings, and advises on strategy and litigation risk arising in administrations and liquidations.

Carl also advises and acts in a range of commercial and property disputes including disputes concerning the sale of land, commercial leasing disputes, professional negligence claims, restraint of trade and non-solicitation disputes, contractual claims, shareholder and partnership disputes, misleading or deceptive conduct claims and testator’s family maintenance proceedings. He has particular experience in matters requiring urgent interlocutory relief, including injunctions and other time-critical court applications.

Carl works closely with accountants, financial advisers and other professional referrers who introduce clients requiring assistance with commercial disputes. His clients include insolvency practitioners, non-bank lenders, property developers, estate agents, horse racing trainers and syndicators, as well as small and medium businesses and private individuals. He is known for being straightforward to deal with and for providing thorough, strategic advice focused on achieving efficient and proportionate outcomes.

Carl has presented to industry bodies on insolvency and commercial dispute topics.

Carl joined Pointon Partners in 2015 and is admitted to practise in the Supreme Court of Victoria and the Federal Court of Australia.

Carl has completed the ARITA Advanced Certification, completing both the Insolvency and the Restructuring and Turnaround streams. He achieved the highest mark nationally in the Advanced Restructuring and Turnaround subject.

Outside of work, Carl enjoys travelling, following horse racing and supporting the Hawthorn Football Club. He grew up in Geelong and maintains strong ties to the region.
