David is a Partner at Pointon Partners with over 20 years of professional experience.

David practices in commercial and property law, acting for both local and international clients including major corporations, entrepreneurs, private and institutional lenders and borrowers, funds, property developers and family businesses on a range of property and business law related matters.

David is also a registered Trade Mark Attorney and leads the firm’s intellectual property practice, focusing on protecting client’s intellectual property rights from third party infringement. David has experience in devising intellectual property strategies for start-up clients right through to large scale international companies and has acted in a range of matters in the intellectual property field.

  • business acquisitions and disposals, including the preparation and implementation of sale of business transactions for all businesses and in particular hospitality;
  • company structures, providing advice and strategy for joint ventures, partnerships and trusts;
  • franchising, acting for both franchisors and franchisees and advising them on any legislative changes;

  • trusts and superannuation matters;
  • general commercial advice and strategy; and
  • represents clients in complex litigation.

  • Commercialisation and licensing;
  • Providing clients with full transaction solutions for their innovation products including patent protection, regulatory compliance and r & d review;
  • Registration and Prosecutions;
  • Oppositions;
  • Intellectual property disputes, including trade mark, copyright, design and patent disputes;
  • Strategic advice in relation to protection of intellectual property including on-line marketing and social media compliance;
  • Investigations;
  • Licensing, supply/distribution and other service agreements;
  • Assignments and Transfers;
  • International Trade Mark Protection; and
  • Venture capital funds; supports and advises international clients in conjunction with Laworld members in all jurisdictions including USA, Europe and Asia.

Property Law:

  • commercial property, including commercial leases.
  • banking and finance, including loan origination, loan agreements and finance facility documentation;
  • private lending, providing clients with comprehensive and strategic advice during negotiation;
  • advises on issues of investment in real property whilst also assisting in capital raising for the project and has been a key advisor for major projects for land owners including major sub-division developments; and
  • sits on the advisory board for a major Australian mortgage fund.
